2019: a year in review

Tomato Elephant Studio had a very eventful and productive 2019: sponsoring local meetups & camps, organising free training sessions, forming new partnerships, and contributing to a number of open source projects in addition to project work.

Tomato Elephant Studio had a very eventful and productive year. 2019 allowed us to contribute more to open source, organise more free training sessions and sponsor local events in addition to project work. We formed two new partnerships and looking forward to do even more in 2020. But let's recap 2019 first.

Tomato Elephant Studio ran seven free training sessions in 2019 as a part of Drupal Global Training Days: five sessions in Brisbane, one in Sydney and one in Melbourne covering the following topics:

  • Migrating to Drupal 8 (intermediate)
  • Drupal 8 for content editors
  • Creating webforms in Drupal 8
  • Practical theming for Drupal 8

Vladimir presented three courses at DrupalSouth Hobart conference in November 2019:

  • Creating webforms in Drupal 8
  • Practical theming for Drupal 8
  • Introduction to CI for Drupal developers

"Introduction to CI for Drupal developers"  was very popular and will continue our "CI for Drupal Developers" web series.

Tomato Elephant Studio organises 2-6 hour short training courses regularly. Contact us to request a course or check out the schedule of upcoming confirmed courses.

We became Platfrom.sh partner: a versatile hosting platform for Drupal, Symfony, PHP and NodeJS applications. Platform.sh also provides hosting for MagentoCloud and SymfonyCloud. Tomato Elephant Studio has migrated a number of clients running Drupal 7 and Drupal 8 to Platform.sh. The process of migration was partially covered in "Introduction to CI for Drupal developers" training session at DrupalSouth Hobart conference.

Our employees gathered enough experience and certifications to become official Google Cloud Platform partner. In particular, Janna became first Professional Cloud Architect at Tomato Elephant Studio. Google Cloud Platform provides everything from virtual machines, serverless Cloud Functions and integrations with Google services to chatbots, machine learning and big data processing.

Vladimir was accepted into Gitlab Heroes program recognising his contribution and engagement in developer community. Tomato Elephant Studio uses Gitlab for most of their projects and provides courses and training material to improve your team development process.

Tomato Elephant Studio is heavily invested into Bootstrap4 theme for Drupal 8 in 2019. While Vladimir was working on embedding Bootstrap library into the theme, Janna improved style guide and SASS compilation.

We also submitted patches for Drupal core and webform module among others.

Vladimir is currently helping with translation of "Symfony 5: The Fast Track" into Russian (expected to be completed early 2020).

Tomato Elephant Studio was pizza sponsor of every Drupal meetup in Queensland Australia (Gold Coast and Brisbane). We organised DrupalCamp Byron Bay 2019. We will continue to sponsor local events in 2020.

Tomato Elephant Studio wishes you mental happiness, good weather, wealth of knowledge and many more open source contributions in 2020!
